Dell Retires Latitude, Precision, XPS & More: What’s Replacing Them?

kevan heesom |

Dell Technologies is officially retiring its most recognised PC product lines — including Latitude, Precision, Inspiron, XPS, and OptiPlex — as part of a major global portfolio refresh. The new naming system is designed to simplify product choices, improve clarity, and align with the growing demand for AI-ready computing.

📦 The New Product Structure

Dell is moving to a simplified three-tier brand structure:

  • Dell – For general use, including education and everyday productivity

  • Dell Pro – Designed for business and professional users

  • Dell Pro Max – Engineered for high performance and advanced workloads

Each product line will also come in one of three tiers:
Base, Plus, or Ultra – clearly indicating performance and feature levels.

🔁 What the New Names Replace

Here’s how the old lines map to the new structure:

Retiring Brand New Category Use Case
Inspiron Dell Consumer and education laptops
XPS Dell Ultra Premium consumer laptops
Latitude Dell Pro Business-class laptops and 2-in-1s
Precision Dell Pro Max Workstations for advanced computing tasks
OptiPlex Dell / Dell Pro Desktop PCs for enterprise and business use

🤖 Why Dell Is Making This Change

Dell’s new naming approach reflects a fundamental shift in how its products are used. It’s driven by:

  • AI-first design – with devices powered by processors featuring Neural Processing Units (NPUs)

  • Simplicity – names that make it easier for buyers to match device tiers to needs

  • Sustainability – modular, repairable, and recyclable hardware across the portfolio

🗓️ When Will This Happen?

The rollout begins mid-2025. Products with the legacy names will continue to be sold during the transition but will be gradually phased out and replaced with models under the new structure.
